2016 Los Angeles Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

LA 18 Celebrates Los Angeles Asian Pacific American Heritage Month 2016

May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (APAHM), a celebration of Asian Pacific Americans (APAs) in the United States. For the last three decades, the City of Los Angeles has held a series of events throughout the month to highlight the significant contributions that APAs have made to the city’s past, present and future.

The theme of LA APAHM 2016 is “We are LA.” From creating small businesses and tech companies to playing major roles in entertainment, restaurants, music, culture, community service, and government, our stories have long been a part of LA’s history and we will continue to be a big part of LA’s future.

This year is extra special as there is much to celebrate. Councilmember David Ryu is the first Korean American and only APA on the Los Angeles City Council in over 20 years. Commissioner Joel Jacinto is the first Filipino American Commissioner of the L.A. Department of Public Works.

Here’s Councilmember Ryu’s message, calling for everyone to celebrate APAHM!
