LA18, the number one Asian-language television station in the U.S., shares CSC’s mission to empower the Asian community and to advocate for equality and a better quality of life, especially for the immigrant population. Just as LA 18 offers multi-language news, entertainment and lifestyle programs over-the-air, CSC offers economic, health and community services within the community in multiple languages (Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, and Khmer).

CSC’s gala reflected the organization’s rich culture and history, kicking off with a festive Lion Dance by Chinatown’s Lung Kung Ming Yee Hing Association. Following the performance, dignitaries and CSC board members handed the dancers lì xì, also known as red envelopes that contain “lucky money”. This is typically handed out during traditional Chinese gatherings. The gala coincided with the annual mid-autumn festival, which reunites family and friends to eat and share mooncakes.

In addition to the Lion Dance, veteran singer Sam Lo graced the stage throughout the night, delighting guests with American and Chinese classic hits. The evening wrapped up with a series of fashion shows led by Miss Los Angeles Chinatown, sponsored by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Los Angeles.

Since 1971, the Chinatown Service Center has been providing important culturally competent and linguistically appropriate services that target families with low to moderate income. CSC is the largest community-based Chinese American health and human services organization in Southern California.
